The Dokuz Eylül University Maritime Faculty was founded in 1988 with the title of "School of Maritime Business and Management" in the body of Dokuz Eylül University as the first higher education institute in Turkey concerning maritime business. The main objective of the faculty is to assist the maritime interests of the country and to raise the competitive advantage of Turkish shipping by providing qualified manpower to Turkish maritime, logistics and transport industries. The faculty, where the medium of instruction is English, aims to provide the students with maritime traditions and commons, critical and analytical thinking, self-discipline, self-confidence, social responsibility, team working, lifelong learning, managerial and leadership qualifications. The faculty has been granted the ISO 9001 Quality Management Certificate since 2001. In addition to various academic activities and numerous publications in nationwide and international fields; the faculty has been organizing a variety of courses and training programs such as STCW, ISPS, Agency and Brokering courses.

- Department is opened because of lack of qualified personnel in logistic sector but department has not started the education yet.

Dokuz Eylül University and Maine Maritime Academy Joint Degree Programs
The aim of the joint degree programs between Dokuz Eylül University and Maine Maritime Academy is to provide undergraduate degrees in the maritime discipline that will be jointly awarded by both universities in the following majors currently offered by DEU and MMA:
- Maritime Business Administration (DEU) / International Business and Logistics (MMA)
- Nautical Science (DEU) / Marine Transportation Operations (MMA)
- Marine Engineering (DEU) / Marine Engineering Operations (MMA)
Turkish students have two avenues to enter the program. If they can demonstrate an adequate proficiency in English they may enter the first semester of the program which will be taught in Izmir at DEU. If they cannot demonstrate adequate English proficiency they may attend English preparatory classes at DEU appropriate to their levels of proficiency for a maximum of two years.
